Looking for clubs in England
« on: May 27, 2015, 09:06:05 PM »

I plan to be in England for a few weeks (at least) this summer, and would love to play regularly while I am there. If there are any clubs out there that need players, I would love to join and help out to the best of my abilities. Ideal location would be close enough to London (lets say within 3 hours commute), but I am cricket-crazy enough to look at options further away.

Apologies if this should be in the "I'm Free" board instead - I can move the convo there if admin advises that.

If you are only willing to play within a 3hr commute of London You may find it difficult to find a club. Most clubs will want to see a greater commitment than that. also, Every club I know already has too many high quality players, many of which are under 25 yrs old too. sorry mate but you may struggle to find somewhere.

Greater commitment than a 3 hour commute? That's quite a journey!!!

I'm sure you'll find somewhere. There may not be many who would use you to fill spots that regular players will usually take up but there are plenty of friendly clubs about that will welcome some an extra player to bolster the ranks

I was being facetious. there are very few clubs down in Somerset who have 'enough players'. Every team we play against struggle on a weekly basis to get teams out. we even played a WEPL side recently who only had 8 players for their league game 3 days later. The fact that they only have 9 members make this a big problem. Good luck in finding a club, pick one with friendly members who share your attitude to the game.

Fair play. Often it's hard to interpret sarcasm through text.  :-[

Go for a club near to where you are staying. Check to see they have a team playing at the level you are comfortable with. Pop along for a net. If the beers don't come out at the end of nets go somewhere else. There are loads of clubs and the standard goes from very good to very weak. all clubs welcome new players.

Will be in London itself. Ideal situation is to at least have initial correspondence with one or two clubs before I get there. Finalizing the club can be done when there.

If you know where you will be staying it will be easier. I can put you in touch with a couple of clubs that would probably benefit from having someone available for a few weeks over the summer holidays. Level is always important too.
