Biggest cricket related tantrum you've seen
« on: July 21, 2015, 07:13:29 PM »

As a follow up to the most "village" thing you've seen thread, I started thinking about the tantrums I've seen over cricket. One of these is fairly recent, while another still gets a laugh to this day.

What is the biggest/best/funniest tantrum you've seen/had during a game.

My top 3 are:

Myself getting an Audi badge!
This was last season, and I am not proud of this  :(
Having got my fourth quacker in a row I went into the dressing room with my teammates all pissing themselves laughing. Seeing this made my mood worse.
I went in an calmly placed my kit on the bench. Disappointed by the lack of bat/helmet throwing a teammate walked in to see why I hadn't thrown a paddy, just in time to see me "Ben Stokes" the door  :-[
There are still knuckle marks in the door to this day! As for me I needed medical attention to get one of my knuckles back in the right place. Since that day I haven't assaulted any innocent doors and just laugh when I get out now. Shame it took injuring myself to realise it's just a game (and I'm not very good at it!)

Brothers!
We have a family of 4 play for us, the dad (in his early 50s) and 3 sons (20 year old twins and an 18 year old). They were all in the same team one week. Going into the game the twins were both on the same number of wickets.
Due to getting 4 people and their  bags in a Vauxhall Corsa being almost impossible, the mother took two of them to the game. One of the twins dropped a catch off of... The other twins bowing! He'd already taken a wicket so was one ahead too.
The dad and two of the brothers came back to the club in the Corsa, the other twin had to be taken home to calm down, having (apparently) tried to strangle his brother for "dropping that on purpose" and had then been waiting in the changing rooms with a bat!
It's stories like that make me wish I'd been there!
People still get a "I'm going to do a (insert family name here) on you for that dropped catch" once the bowler has calmed down enough to make a joke.

And my personal favourite, this was only a couple of weeks ago.
There's a bit of a back story to this one which adds to the humour.

In the first innings one of our guys took "a catch" off what appeared to be a bump ball. He claimed he'd taken it and their umpire gave the batsman out.
Fast forward to the 2nd innings, and the guy who took the catch is out in be exact same way, and guess who the fielder was! (The cricketing gods work in mysterious ways). He starts walking and gets to the square leg umpire and says "did that carry". The fielding side point out he's started walking so should go away, to which the umpire agrees.
In a temper he throws his glove, and it somehow goes behind him, next to the crowd of players celebrating the wicket. He has to walk back (to more verbals) and instead of picking the glove up, he hits it with his bat. We counted 11 shots to get off the pitch, it was both funny to watch and an embarrassment to the club at the same time.
And there have been a few impressions done every week at training since!

So so many to choose from. One of our players dropping dollies so put out on boundary out the way, batsman hacks at it wildly and its flying towards said player!! Misses the catch, knocks it over the line for 6,  and has a massive fit, mainly blaming the bowler for not "bowling properly". I was still laughing in pub afterwards!!!

One of my favourites was watching one of our players hit his bat off a post and it ping back and hit him in the face! Which was brilliant to watch.
And another was when our bloke got a new bat, got a golden duck first game of the season and came into the changing rooms and middled his bat off the bench and then tried to send the bat back to the said company and said it broke, after he had middled the bench it cracked in two, sent it to said company and they returned it saying, that's not a cricket related break so we cannot do anything about it

Bloke that used to play for us walks out to bat at 3. Gets a decent ball first up and takes the cover off it, through to the keeper for a regulation catch, fielding side appeal, umpire quite rightly gives him out.

However, no3, who is in his mid 30's, demands that the umpire reverses his decision or, and I quote,  "I'm packing my stuff and going home". Amazingly the umpire changes his decision and brings him back! Fielding side are obviously not impressed but get on with it, bowler runs in and delivers a superb yorker and bang, stumps everywhere! The rest of our side on the balcony absolutely lose it and no3 has to walk past his teammates laughing uncontrollably having just got the first ever double golden.

Many years ago playing a sunday 2nd team friendly away at Warlingham I think it was.

What can only be described as a senior pro trying to block out for the last wicket was given out LBW by one of his team. He turns round and smashes the stumps with his bat swearing and refused to shake anyone's hand. Awful behaviour that about 3/4 juniors per side had to witness

I've got one I'm not proud of. First ball I got a lifter off a length which smashed me in a chest off a quickie. Second ball pitched in exactly the same place but didn't bounce at all and castled me. I took my lid off and drop kicked it towards the pavilion, caught it sweetly and it absolutely flew causing some spectators to take cover. regretted it instantly.

Our Saturday skipper got out earlier this season for another golden, his second in as many games. He's a terrible cricketer, can't field, bat and his bowling is pretty dump. He can only throw a ball about 30 yards. In response to his GD, he somehow gained the strength of the Hulk and launched his bat towards the pavilion only to see it sail up onto the roof a good 40 yards away and get stuck. We still take the piss out of him about how he can throw a bat further than a ball.

Me. When I was put at short leg early this season. And our bellend bowler then bowled a leg side half tracker that was smashed into my thigh!

Moron! Grrrr

1st team player getting a diamond, cue bat going to square leg, gloves to point.

Everybody stood in astonishment, trying not to laugh.

Square leg umpire then returned the bat to the guy who then proceeded to launch it towards the pavilion.

Best or worst part? It wasn't even his bat.

Our skipper for my old team once got out for a duck and walked into the changing room (we were playing away) and punched a hole through the plaster board on the wall. A plasterer by trade and fearing a ban/fine, out he went to his car, picked up his tools and spent the rest of our innings patching up the hole. The oppo were none the wiser and he got away scot free!

One of our lads in a T20 on Wednesday night. He's been in horrible nick all season, he's looking back to his best, feet are moving well, he gets into the 20's with some lovely shots sensing a big score is finally on the horizon, get's an absolute grubber that castles him at which he screams out loud and smashes the remaining stumps with his bat snapping them in half, I don't think we made it better by making him go and dig out a spare set through fits of laughter!  :D
