My team doesn't net. They net Jan-March and then outdoor nets start and after 4 weeks people stop turning up, then it's me, one other batsman who bowls part time offies and 3 teenagers who spend more time chatting and daring each other to try and bowl doosras than actually trying to give you a decent ball, and then a few week later it just stops. I've asked, I've tried to drum up enthusiasm, it's not happening. Before anyone comes back with "Join another club" that's not an option, I love my club, they made me into the cricketer I am today, which is a terrible cricketer, but is still quite an achievement considering where I started.

Is it a massive faux pas to ring up another club and see if I can't gatecrash their nets? Would my club most likely view it as a betrayal? (I'm new to cricket club politics and thinking, and don't want to scout it out incase merely asking would be like a big F you). Also, would other clubs be not particularly happy to give an extra batsman 15 minutes of netting when he's not even playing for them?

I'm pretty sure this idea is a no-goer but I REALLY want a net!!!!

Quite the opposite most clubs would welcome you as most clubs struggle with attendence after the first couple of weeks of enthusiasm and cancel nets as cannot cover the cost.

And do you think if you found out one of the players from your team was netting with another club (one you will at some point play against) they'd view that as a bad thing?

Well they shouldn't do if the reasons for it are genuine and in your case they are and also  there's nothing wrong with wanting to be as best prepared as you possible can be before the season starts.
A couple of  players at my club always net elsewhere as the club doesn't bother with winter nets and our Captain is always appreciative of  them taking the initiative

I think as long as you're honest with the club you're netting with that you might not wish to join them.

I net with a local club during the summer as my home club is around an hour away. They know that this year I have no interest in playing for them. Next year that may change.

You said it isn't an option but you need to leave in my opinion, if you've outgrown the club you have to do what's best for you and go and get the training / coaching you want. Maybe a bigger club or one of a better standard, if you just settle for having no opportunity to train you'll never be better

Mate that sounds exactly like my club and I don't want to move club for that exact reason. I feel for you bud... tricky situation.

Yep,same boat myself.take the initiative and try to net with another club.most of your teammates will respect you
If you get negativity i would be questioning if its the right club for me as has bern said above.
Its also a good chance to meet new people with experience of another club
I will be personally practising on my own during the closed season(bowling machine) and not at my own club

I try to get to both net sessions at my club so I don't feel the need to go to someone else's net sessions, I would be willing to train elsewhere if I had to though. We do suffer from a drop in attendance after a few weeks of winter nets which lasts right through the season, last night was particularly bad as only me, a fellow space filler upper, 1st and second team opening bowlers were there (a total of four people). It gets right on my nerves when stuff like this happens, especially when players are moaning that they're struggling for runs/wickets whilst there's others that are turning up every time and effectively getting shafted by being stuck at 10/11 and doing nothing in the field, or getting dropped.

Personally I wouldn't have a problem with someone training at another club, as long they're honest about it. If your club isn't going to run nets or people can't be bothered then you're perfectly within your rights to get some practice in elsewhere.

Our club isn't big enough so I net whenever I can with a friend at his club. In return I play for them whenever they're short. No negativity at all. The effort is appreciated by both.

U r as good as the guys u play with, if u want to improve then net with better players [emoji14]

Same with us.1's and 2's net ,3rd 4th &5th teams don't.
Tried to get people interested and no one turns up.
