Newbery GT Crack/Split
« on: August 07, 2015, 04:02:05 PM »

Hi, A friend of mine has given me his Newbery GT SPS which he says is completely broken. I only play on and off every year now so the damage doesn't bother me but I was just wondering if there is anything I can do for it? I've got a roll of fibre tape and can grab any other bits but I'd quite like it to be usable tomorrow if possible. The crack doesn't go all the way through to the front.

Open up the crack by wedging a piece of wood then fill it with as much pva as possible. Take out the wedge, clamp from edge to edge probably twice to increase the coverage of pressure.

Once the glue has dried, dowel the edge to the middle twice to improve strength. Use a scuff sheet and some tape to add a bit more strength.

Ps. What the hell is a knot doing on an SPS bat?

Get yourself some word glue. Put into the crack and then use parcel tape to tightly wrap around the bat pulling the crack flush. Leave this overnight then sand off excess glue if you can with 120 grit sand paper and job should hold the crack. Might want to the bat tape over for a bit of added security

If it was doing the repair I would glue and dowel as already suggested.

Glue and dowel it at the same time!!! As drilling and dowelling after glueing will likely break the glue bond!! As you can clamp it up leave it for a couple of days and then finish!!

if it was mine after glueing and dowelling, i would bind the the bottom aprox 20mm from the toe aprox 20mm binding and put pva on the binding, then after it has dried, put some reinforced edging tape over it,just for cosmetics.
