You don't need to oil your bat every 2-3 months. Give it 2-3 coats of oil (light) when you first get it and it also depends on how quickly it absorbs the oil but usually 3rd coat takes a while, waiting 24 hrs between each application then knock it properly and that should be enough.

I will re oil my bat at the end of the season before storage but that is simply because I have sanded the bat a little and is usually only 1/2 a coat

I wasnt giving any advice, just what i do and it worked for me...i play in UAE, temperature here is 40°c minimum in the summer therefore i oil it every 3 months a light coat and specially after sanding it after 8 to 10 mnths.

Some guys take their bat straight into the nets or match.
Some will prefer oiling the bat for then hand knocking before they go in the nets.
Some don't oil their bats coz it makes the willow dark and it looses the shine/buff but now theres another option where you can buy Salix bat wax. It wont make your bat dark to look at and at the same time it will works like linseed bat oil.
There are few good videos on youtube to prepare new bats for matches.

I've just finished knocking in an SS Maximus at the moment and I was surprised at how softy pressed it appears to be - required a lot of mallet work before I was happy with it

In all fairness i havent had to buy a bat for almost 4 years before now so I haven't done a whole lot of knocking in lately but I'll be interested to see how my War Bird compares when knocking it in

And i have mentioned in that review that this is my first ss to end up like this, and i have been using them for quite long now.

In my opinion, ss or for that matter any bat will last if taken proper care.

It is a product made by natural material so you can't  fault a bat maker.

And we have seen other bat brands break on TV it doesn't make them bad.
