Sehwag retires
« on: October 19, 2015, 04:28:03 PM »

Sehwag announced his retirement today and while this is not surprising news it still makes me sad.

This is a guy who dramatically changed cricket for the better. Who scored runs all around the world at exhilarating speed and could transform a game in a session.
He was also adept at making insane ducks.

He is my all time favourite player.

All hail Viru. !!

maybe 'best' remembered by us engleesh for the Mumbai test India won chasing 400 odd when Sachin got a ton.

Sehwag got them off to the sort of start you only see in the movies

thrilling player, maybe short on caps for India but they say you are remembered for how you played not your stats in years to come.

What is up with de facto former players officially retiring? Zaheer Khan did the same..

Viru is Viru. Pure entertainment and a fearless batsman I have seen after Sir Viv Richards..

Got to agree Buzz, as a opener i was always in awe of the aggressive test opener.

Sehwag and Slater before him and Jayasuriya in the one day format brought excitement to the game against the best bowlers of their time. Im sure there were others, but in my time as a Aussie they stood out in their generations before 20/20 made this a given. Hats off to a wonderful legacy Sehwag.

Viru was unique batsman and very interesting human. I still remember some of his quotes and the best one was - I dont know what it means to be in the zone, i see the ball and I hit it.
He even mentioned once in a television interview after getting a 100 that his son's friends at school were giving him a hard time because his father was not scoring runs  :D
Honest and talented batter, will be missed!!!

No matter what the situation, he went for it opening! Such an entertainer...shame his eyes went. Encouraged the likes of Warner to play tests too. Wasn't a bad off spinner either

Always loved watching Sehwag bat. His 195 at the MCG was an unbelievable innings.

Loved watching him bat, till the time he was on crease victory was imminent, that would change when he would get out early. He was simple man with a simple way of playing cricket, his own way. He mentioned that wanted to retire on his 37'th birthday. He batted & lives his life his own way, the simple way. He is a hero.
