Wider Pads, more than 7 canes...
« on: November 23, 2015, 05:27:34 PM »

So I'm in the market for new pads, I've used Kookaburra pads pretty exclusively for the last few years as I really like how the lead leg has 9 canes, currently have the Recoil 900s from a couple of seasons ago.

However, last season I managed to get bruised through the pad after being hit so thought their time was up. Now I'm trying to find similar, wider pads but thought I'd shop away from Kookaburra to see what else is available.

After looking around most pads seem to be 7 canes wide but I much prefer the wrap around I have had with the wider Kooks. So far I have found:
  • GN Legend - Have an 8th half way up but get rave reviews
  • M&H Type 1 - pictures show 9 canes but teammate has CK22s and the quality isn't very good (inside of top hat almost completely rubbed off inside half a season and stitching coming undone)
  • G&M OLE - New ones are changed to 7, would have to get 2015 or earlier
  • Slazenger Pro Tour LE - Look nice but worried about quality
  • Kook Kahuna Pro - May end up here if all else fails

I just wanted any opinions on the above and to know if there are any more wider pads out there? Or 7 canes that really wrap around well. Open to ideas!

I have some 9 cane GM OLE Sponsored players pads that I'm willing to part with.

944 grams each. Therefore lighter than the standard OLE pads while offering more protection.

I have the 9 cane pads and 7 or 8 cane pads appear to be a similar width.
I had the same view, but have the older and new style gm OLE pads and they are basically the same width.

There are some really good deals for the old gm OLE pads around at the moment

They may be nice and shiny but they're don't offer quite as much as the players pads.  ;)

I sometimes find a wider side wing will suffice

If ever there was a man I'd listen to about pads, it would be Redders

Thanks for the info, good to know as I also like the look of the OLE gloves and am always a sucker for a matching pad/glove combo!

This is what I noticed about the GN Legends, they seem to wrap around really well. The reviews always seem to be great too.

I love my Legends, they are awesome. Only draw back is they squeak like hell.
