not according to him, he's tweeted his desire again to get back playing for England. Hard to see a way back now, Compton has done ok and how could you drop him for Pak and Sri lanka games at home? Balance is on the tour too so he's back in the frame....

Hmmm...... stranger things have happened, if I had a fiver i'd back Bell to get back in the England side. But how.....no idea

He'll make stacks of runs this season and probably win a pot with Warwicks as well - never been any question whenever he goes back to county cricket he scores a lot of runs.

I think the combo of losing the England vice captaincy and KP going did him.  I genuinely think (know if I believe our second team skipper) he had designs on the England captaincy if they ditched Cook early last year.  It'll take poor form and injuries for him to get back into the England team and the only way I see of him getting back is this summer.  Compton, Ballance, possibly Bairstow (if BUttler's back as wk) and even maybe Vince are ahead of him.  If he doesn't get in this summer, he's never done well in India and by then I reckon it'll be too late.  England selectors never seem to want to pick players over 33/34, whereas elsewhere they do (or keep players on until their mid/late 30s).

Whether scoring 1500 runs in a county season alone will be enough I don't know - it wasn't for Ramprakash who admittedly was older and had a far inferior England record to Bell.  It would be nice to see him back personally for two reasons; 1) that cover drive and 2) there aren't many fellow Coventrians in professional sport!

1. I think that Warwickshire are rewarding someone who they have developed and received great service from when not playing for England. Chopra can now concentrate on scoring runs.

2. Ian Bell will only play for England again if he changes management company. Strauss has seen to that.

3. I wouldn't be surprised if he is completely content playing for Warwickshite until he's 40, much like a thinner version of Trescothick.

just on 2......he's with the same management company as the unmentionable one, came out in press conferences saying he had no issues with him......do you think stripping him of the vice captaincy and subsequent dropping and being with the same company are all related?

im a Bell fan but even I thought another player should have a chance on this current tour...

I think that settling scores in cricket is often more important than making them in the middle.

very true,and sung his praises in the Ashes.Bayliss told Compton the slate was clean thou so he may not of had a choice in the matter.I've got Bayliss down as a clever man management guy.

Let's be a little bit cynical now.

Bell loses his place, appearance fee money and possibly sponsor money. Not yet his contract but it's only a matter of time for a one format player being dropped. No IPL contract looming either..

Bell joins Woodworm. Becomes captain of Warwickshire. I can't believe they don't involve a pay rise. He may not be on the big sponsorship bucks of an international but I bet Woodworm paid him alot more than Kooks. Even for a senior player in a county setup on decent money, being captain must of involved a pay rise. Nothing wrong with either, sportsman have a short career and both parties will get a higher profile because of it.

Thing is with that Nick, he's not turned up at Glamorgan or Leicester promising to revolutionise their cricket. He is Warwickshire, has captained them before. I bet he's determined to give something back. Despite rumours about his intellect, I think he's just accepting his cards and will concentrate on passing on his experience to players at a club he loves.

Don't disagree but I wouldn't  be surprised if money is now a consideration.

I think it just made sense all round. Warwickshire had a captain who wasn't performing. They international experienced cricketer who will be available all season.

In terms of money, that's more likely a consequence than the trigger. WW might have been aware of the decision to make him captain and made a large offer.
