Go Pro Keeping Practice

Not sure if this will interest anyone. Just me a nets with a friend blocking my view, he is very good at holding his bat in front of my eyes. Any comments welcome. I'm very aware that I'm a little high on some takes and I'm not going with the direction of the ball occasionally. Hoping to iron that out before the season starts.

Not a keeper but i'm very much an advocate of the half squat technique, although you get to positions fairly quickly from keepers i've seen recently this gives them the edge.

however your legside takes are very good, nice to see a keeper actually practicing (not that many don't) I just dont see ours do it that often!

Thanks, I have experimented with half squatting and the 'z' position and don't feel that dynamic. Only been doing it properly for two seasons so might give it another go. Need to work on my tight hammies.

Yeah that is something I have tried and won't be afraid to try again. My issue is that I feel that holding myself in that position takes quite a bit of energy, I feel being down in a full crouch/squat doesn't take much energy.

Now I might be completely wrong, it just feels that way to me. I feel more explosive from a full squat as I can lift slightly as the ball is delivered making my feet feel light. The problem of course is if I lift too high and my hands and head lift too high so I can't rise with the take. I'll experiment a bit more. Thanks for your help.

its basically the opposite idea, you're up then you drop to half squat during the run up that way you'll always be low rather than always be going up

Standing back I do find it easier not to go all the way down but just something about standing up makes me want to be as low as possible on delivery.

try the 'Z' shape mate and after a while it becomes just as natural and i'd say easier on the legs, at least for me anyway

Not sure if it makes a difference but I have stubby little legs and a long body, maybe take me a bit longer to get used to it.

I'm the same here, it took me a good winter and part of the season to get fully used to it but once I was, wow the difference I feel it made to my keeping is way beyond what I expected.

If you have any questions mate, then feel free to drop me a message and i'm happy to spend some time discussing with you :)

Thanks, the only thing I can't work out is if the ball is very full or shoots along the ground does the z position mean you are then going down as your gloves aren't touching the ground (I'm basing this on the image in the pitch vision article posted above.

I don't see a problem in needing to move lower. I think the problem comes if you start rising and then need to go down. Plus even at the position in the photos, by dropping his hands towards the floor he is only going to be a couple of inches off the ground at most

Quicker to fall than it is to rise
