Out with injury
« on: May 16, 2017, 10:07:56 PM »

Ok so im not completely out, ive potentially torn my rhomboid so I've been mature and taken a few weeks off bowling and put the gloves on.

Im struggling with when standing up and one pops and is at the awkward height as to whether you stay low and go fingers up or stand up, jump a little and go fingers down..

Both feel awkward when standing up as i try to keep low. Was hoping i could get some tips or vids of it happening that i can look over

You have to move up with the bounce, your hip and shoulder on the side that the ball is will have to give way to allow the room for your arms/hands to move up and back with the ball, it's hard to describe, you need to take the ball as smoothly as possible, a normal take will see your arms providing most of this 'give' but for this sort of take you'll need to use your whole body to absorb the ball

Sometimes it gets too big anyway and will skip off your gloves/arms/shoulders, standing up is difficult!

I would never go fingers up when standing up, just asking for broken fingers that way.
It's all about having your body in the right position, head over the ball and riding the bounce.
I was always taught that if your feet and head are in the right position, your hands will take care of themselves.
Hope that offers some insight.

The only time I ever go fingers up is if it is dug in short and coming straight at me. Ideally you'd move to the side and take it like the others have said. Also for a beamer if your bowler is an idiot.

If the ball if coming about the level of your heart I'd say you are as well trying to spring in the air and take it fingers down, that way your head is in line all the time.

agree with what others have said. always fingers down and rotate your arms/shoulders. imagine your backswing when batting and there's a big juicy full toss coming your way - hands together, rotated right up around your shoulder!

i'm tall so i have no problem springing up to take those hip or even shoulder high ones, fingers down.

my issue is the yorker gone wrong that hits your gloves on the half volley. ouch ;-)

Yeah, i like to keep things normal, as i dont keep often i just do what is natural but if i can grooce a keepers mind set it will come natural quickly.

I think i speak for everyone when i say pee rollers down leg side are by far the worst!
