Getting back into Cricket - BAT

I am trying to get back into playing cricket as my company is involved in a corporate league. I have a few bits of equipment to get, but the most important thing is of course a bat (possibly a box too!).
I am 6ft 1 and very much a bottom hand player that plays mainly straight and leg side. I am not a big hitter but more of run-a-ball player with the bad balls put away.
Ideally I would prefer to buy a 2nd hand bat because of the benefits of already being knocked in and as its not very high level, I would prefer not to spend ££ of pounds on a bat currently.

Can anybody provide some usefull guidance on what I should look for in a bat? Long handle  with a low middle? Any specific brands I should go for/avoid?

P.S Some of these verification questions are pretty damn difficult :o

Can you remember any bats you've had in the past and what you thought of them? That might give a bit of guidance

Buy 7, use the one that you like the most then place the others neatly around the house, for that is the forum way.

some people say a LB/SH gives better balance. Talk to a bat maker - @Red Ink Cricket is a  great option, his G3 bats are ace.

I'm 6ft 3 and still use a short handle - I personally never got on with either proper LH or LB. Just depends how you bat I guess!

If you are playing corporate league cricket I would not invest in an expensive bat as the balls used may be dubious.

Other than that go into a shop (even sports direct) wave a few bats around and see what you like the feel of.

If you are based in London head to its just cricket near the oval as they have a decent range (and sponsor the forum!)

Thanks for the replies guys. I previously had a Kookabura (not sure of model) as it was a long time ago. A few others also Gray Nichols (not sure if these are any good nowadays)

Should I go for Long handle or short handle? Does it depend on stance? 
I dont think the standard is too good, but I was hoping for it to be a way for me to get back into it as its been almost 12 years :D

Roco - any more details? Where would it be shown if it was for sale? Cant find a for sale area?

Probably best to get to a shop and or maker and try some, it's the best way to pick your bat TBH, you don't have enough posts yet to see the sale section.. Also what is your budget? You might be surprised what someone like @Red Ink Cricket could make you in the lower grades for a good price..

Im happy to pay up to around £100 ish

Do you think its better to try to get a new lower grade one or a 2nd hand with a better grade? I ideally want to avoid the knocking in process

Norman, I have sent you a PM with some details. In regards to grade and size you need to try some out. If you're around 6ft then Short Handle will be fine if you're taller then long blade or long handle might be a better option.

I can make something to suit your style of play. Our x3 grades offer great performance at a fantastic price. They also come knocked in which is an added bonus. Although they will need playing in/ throw downs atleast you won't have go put too much effort in before using. Drop me a pm if you want to discuss

Try a a harrow or size 6, and see if that suits you better.
