I am 35 years old. I have thrown the same way since I was 12 (my arm is horizontal to the target, rather than vertical). Coaches warned me that this would cause me arm/shoulder problems later on...but did I listen...? No.
Every time I throw the ball I am in agony during the action and afterwards. It's getting worse every season, and starting to creep into everyday life, as I notice the pain when I lift my arm, or move it when it's been resting in the same place for a while. Even driving (a car!) is becoming uncomfortable. The pain feels like a 2 inch rod burning about a 1/3 of the way down the side of my upper arm (not bicep or tricep). Anyway, not the point...
The point of this post is this; at 35 years of age, and with proper coaching (of which there is plenty at my club, all willing to help) can I learn to throw with my other arm? Has anyone tried this, and can you give me a glimmer of hope that it worked out for them?
It's a complete back to basics approach needed, as if working with a toddler. I realise that it'll take a LOT of time and practice, and it'll feel completely unnatural for a long time, but I do not want to spend the rest of my cricketing days standing at slip. I love being in the outfield and involved in the game.
Any advice, tips, are very much welcomed. Thanks
