Thumb injury
« on: April 09, 2016, 06:28:14 AM »

Hi All,

I though I'd try and pick your brains, rather than potentially wasting A&E's time....

Basically about 7 weeks ago I was helping to bring down a veranda at my cricket club and a heavy piece of wood fell on me and the my thumb bore the brunt (long story but I was on my phone at the time and the wood hit the joint and the top of my thumb)

Now I've naturally got weird/flexible thumbs, but full movement still hasn't returned and when I catch my thumb on something I get a sharp shooting pain and the actual thumb joint is still tender to touch.

Does anyone have any experience/tips for me? Just wary that the season is just around the corner

Thanks!

Just go and see your GP first.they will tell you if something's wrong

If you got hit on the tip of my thumb mate then what you've got there is a compression fracture, probably a double fracture as its been this long. I usually get them when getting hit on the fingers keeping.

Usually after 4 weeks I wander to the GP so might be worth just popping down for an X-ray, just to know what you're dealing with. If it's a fracture there are so good kits from Boots etc for keeping your finger in a good position for it to heal but the only thing I've ever done mate is tape my fingers together, obviously quite difficult as it's your thumb.

Worth going into the doctors and getting an X-Ray just to make sure you have smashed anything to bits.
