We are looking at refurbing our sightscreens as they currently are wooden slats that have gone rotten in places

The frame itself is a full metal frame, so I'm considering replacing with a tarpaulin type. I've got a price for a custom size, but I've just seen the mesh type which works out at half the cost.

They are a couple of issues I need to sort with how we fix them, but just wondered if anyone had comments on how good mesh screens are as i can't recall any games where we have used them.

I know one concern with tarpaulin covers is how they stay up to wind, but the frames have are very solid so I don't thin they would blow over.

We replaced ours with Tarp a few seasons ago, not specifically this type stuff as we were on a tight budget so got some ground sheet type stuff off eBay that worked out about �40 each. We used bungee cord to fix it to the metal framework as zip ties don't have any give when the sheets are blown about etc.

We replaced our wooden stats with plastic ones.

Made the screen lighter to move and easier to clean so no need to re-paint every year or two.

Guess thats a little bit like house facia?

Our is this sort of mesh i believe still slightly see through at a distance but definately does a job, no oppo moan!

Cheers for the replies. I had considered the plastic fluted slat material (correx), but unfortunately alongside match damage we've got a couple of scrotes in the village that may damage them (our covers got slashed last year)

The plan was to have sheet that is put and taken every game, but I know the hassle of this as it's always the same people that have to do it!

Thanks for the link @Ayrtek. I hadn't considered standard tarpaulin. Ive just checked our measurements and think with a bit of work we can use a standard size which is a fraction of the cost of a custom one.

I'm now considering ordering a few and fixing them permanently. If they damaged we can replace with minimal cost.

That was our outlook @gedders for �50 an end if they do get vandalised it's not going to break the bank or hurt as much as if it cost �200 an end. Our covers got slashed over the winter so we replaced them as a priority and subsequently did the sightssceens on a tight budget.

We had ours custom made by a local metal works. Use a white Lorry side sheet and slide it across a metal frame. Had them for about 10 years now and still work perfectly.

I used some UPVC soffit board to make a sightscreen at my club. Nice and light and virtually zero maintenance.

Thanks for all the suggestions. We are going with the standard tarpaulin (4m x 5m for �20) and seeing how that goes.

Went down to measure up and the kids have made a start on stripping the old wood for us! We didn't even have to ask!

As it's a small village we know who they are after they damaged the screens last year. I think another friendly visit would may be in order.

My old club had terrible problem with vandalism.
Our sightscreens were made from 24" cable tray( which we emulsioned white)

Makes the sightscreens almost indestructible
