Refurb in London?
« on: April 07, 2016, 11:08:05 PM »

Can someone please offer suggestions for a high quality refurb in London or nearby? This fine bat needs a long overdue refresh - general clean-up and a couple of worrying edge cracks as visible in the pics.
Also, can this be done without trashing the stickers?
Many thanks

Hi mate, I'd be willing to refurb it for free if you send it up to Scotland! :D

Absolute beauty you have there, we're going to need more pictures! Hopefully it goes to someone who knows what they're doing!

Scotland seems a bit far for what i had in mind  :D but I am sure you would have given it the TLC it desperately needs!
These 3 bats are probably the only material things I am truly attached to and in particular the Scat. Apologies for the terrible pictures.
I am hoping to find a local master craftsman or atleast someone much better at DIY than me!

Salix are in Maidstone Kent which is about a 90 minute drive from Central London or about 45 from South London Boroughs of Bexley, Woolwich, Bromley. They will do a great job for you

have to say if this was my own bat I would do exactly as soulman mentioned and drive down to Salix, get them to refurb it (it had one come back from here couple of months ago-stickers perfectly in tact back and front)

the reason I would do this is to see Andrew and just have a chat to him, he maybe interested to see a bat like this as they are not common in this condition,if he has time he is great to talk to and I would have a good guess be very interested in this.

But maybe that's just me, i'm a bit of a bat......nerd..... :)

If that was my bat I would want to try and do it myself.
Failing that take the time to go to salix or chase in Hampshire or perhaps choice.
Whoever you choose be very clear you have to look after the stickers/ branding.

Salix sounds like a great idea. Thanks guys for all your suggestions. really helpful!

@ppccopener - I am a bat nerd too😀. Chatting with Andrew would alone make the trip worth it.

I've been down there a couple of times and if he has time it's def worth it. I learnt more about bats in 15 mins that I had for the previous 10 years. It's always good to meet someone who really knows what he is talking about and is passionate about batmaking.
He is busy of course so bear that in mind.one tip he did give me when choosing a bat which may interest others on here(I picked up a couple of bats to take home) was forget the scales(I was interested in weight of the bat) and go on pick up.
Sure it's basic advise but how many of us buying a bat actually say ' I only use 2lb 9'
Good luck.

Update - So the bat was refurbed by Salix. Fantastic job within the constraints of leaving the stickers intact. The edge cracks have been nicely glued and blended in, the toe looks healthy again and the overall finish is like new. And the upside was to see Andrew at work and (briefly) talk about bat shapes, his brief overlap with Julian many years ago and the generally great reception by him, Vicky and Catherine. The overall customer experience is top notch and I can't believe I resisted the temptation to buy more kit!

Many thanks to soulman, ppcopener and Buzz for the excellent idea.
