I should probably be asking a doctor this, but here's easier. I fell on my shoulder diving a week and a half ago, thought I'd dislocated it, went to a+e, they said it wasn't dislocated, xrayed, it wasn't broken, they sent me home with a sling and a big box of painkillers. They had no advice as to what to do or not to do with it. I had to ask - so, should I just rest it? - Yes.

Anyway I could leave the sling off but just not use that arm after a couple of days, and I now have a full range of motion back, but lifting my arm up high or across my body I have to move it very very slowly to avoid a shooting pain, I'm definitely not strong enough to swing a bat yet, has anyone had any experience with anything like this?

I've identified exactly where the pain/weakness is, and googled a diagram of a shoulder, and it's the rotator cuff. I don't know whether it's strained or stretched or torn or inflamed, think I should go to a doctor? Or just gradually use it more and more until it comes back to life?

It's not uncommon for a shoulder to slide in and out, if this has happened your shoulder is still quite vulnerable.I have had both shoulders reconstructed and it's not fun, big reason was I didn't give them enough time to strengthen up after original injury. I would get it checked out.
