I've known a few sponsored players and they aren't too bothered about bat care (not sure about knocking in though). Personally even though I am currently using 3 bats there is one that I am very attached to and am desperately trying to keep it going as I used it to hit my first 6 and my first 50 too. What I will say is I've just bought a brand new role of fibreglass bat tape to repair some damage on the toe and outside edge. Its been going for a few years though.

fibreglass tape has got to be the clubbies absolute best friend....

I mean has there ever been a better way of protecting your bat?

im sure others do this but any new bat I get (which aint many im a second hand merchant) I tape 5 strips of fibreglass tape upwards from the toe ontop of the anti scuff sheet.

May not stop a crack low down but does cushion it against a new ball as it's the seam that does the damage if you toe it...

Don't know, but I'm one for roll the edges and slap on a scuff sheet. I really can't be arsed with spending the time to beat the bat with ball/mallet. And if you are like me, just buy a B3. They come ready to play like no other bat I've used. I've had two like that!

I normally like to use an anti-scuff sheet with with fibreglass edges already and then put some fibre glass tape on the toe as well. I've seen some people put fibre glass tape right at the top of the bat just below the grip tape but I think its more of a superstition thing tbh.

I saw a video on the Gray Nicolls YouTube channel with Andrew Strauss and he was talking about bats saying that he really works his bats in and the bat needs to prove itself to become his match bat, he also said in this video that some players such as KP will just take them out of the wrapper straight into a test match. It really depends on the player, it seems that Cook and Strauss were quite superstitious with their bats and tend to have 'lucky bats' that they try and keep going as long as possible however some players aren't too fussy about bats
