Just on the foot movement, I think the back foot is more important as it acts as a non-committal trigger. It can be back and across or just back or just across but will help you to be ready to press forward with the front foot or play back foot shots square of the wicket. At the moment you're playing square shots off a fixed front foot. I try and move my back foot as the bowler runs in getting me ready to make a decision on the line/length of the ball.

Sorry for the contrarian/confusing view. I just find when I concentrate on the front foot I can over-commit and play round the pad and/or get trapped in front.

Having been advised against a trigger movement this would feel like I was taking a backward step (pardon the pun) :-[

Camelot.....
not going to offer any tech advice you already have plenty. If it's just practice you want we can go again, any number of top forum members with us, large or small numbers, and just practice.....

from what I've seen in my opinion there's nothing that cannot be sorted out.

So basically if you think you will benefit the offer is there. :)

all you really need to ask yourself is are you happy with the technique recommended to you, if YES, crack on and more work practising. If NO, it's time for a re-think......

Batting ain't easy, anyone who tells you otherwise is a numpty.

Very good...... :)

Really a trigger movement is just about preparation and foot movement, at the moment you flex your knees as a kind of trigger but it doesn't help to align you with the ball. I think people can get carried away with the whole trigger thing but generally moving your back foot will help your poise and balance. I'll shut up now as there is little worse than hearing too many different voices/opinions......

I'm up for this!!  OMG, I've just seen some videos of me batting on You Tube, and it's a real eye-opener to see yourself from that perspective. For some of us, I suspect a couple of small adjustments such as getting head and front foot across would be a big help.

For some of us - there may be no hope! :)

You and me both - just been watching me trying to bat too. Went on walkabouts loads!!
So much wrong but at least having a record now is a good starting point. Then would be interesting to see how things change with a couple of 1-2-1 coaching sessions!!

The link hasn't "gone live" yet but I have lazily edited the footage of me batting against the real bowlers.

I have edited out the wides (including one from @Batbuddy99 that went into the side netting!)

I have also taken out my attempts at reverse sweeps and ramp shots, they're fun to try in the nets but I won't do it in a game so I don't need any critique on those!
I also took out the footage of me being bowled twice in 2 balls by @FattusCattus and @Northern monkey. Both times I decided it was going for 12 before they ran in, so I ran past the ball and moved a lot of air with a huge heave, unfortunately I missed the ball both times! Lesson learned, don't pre-meditate, so again no critique needed. There is also an element of "because if there's no video evidence it never happened" in my choice to omit that bit! ;)

Cammy, I actually think this is a great deal better than your orginal video, more foot movement and more decisive shots.

I would say to the slower bowlers on middle/middle-off use the crease instead of having a concrete backfoot and play straighter rather than letting the bottom hand come into play.

Outside off, get that elbow high and transfer your weight slightly more. Still have your head slightly leant back.

You played alot better of your legs and hips from about 12 minutes in and your defense came out a few times too.

Keep going mate!

Yeah - that's right, edit my fabulous wicket-taking benders out why don't you!!!

I tried watching your batting, but after a few minutes, my eyes were naturally drawn to the tall, handsome, ever so slightly balding figure in the net next door. He seemed to float on a cloud, all effortless grace and rapier-like strokes, like a right-handed David Gower, a batting Adonis whom women want to be with and men just want to be.

It would be better if you edited him out so that you didn't suffer by comparison  :D

Yes, @ppccopener was batting well in the first video I posted.
Try watching the one I've posted more recently where I'm facing actual bowlers, it's only you facing the machine next door so there are no distractions  ;)

that's a great idea Northern, you want tips to help you hit it even harder right?  :)

let's see if there is a coach there, if it helps anyone for the next session it will be worth it.

Looking at this video, you have broken the forum rules of I my having half volleys from the bowling machine. How dare you.

Also, in cam's defence, he is undergoing a massive technical change and is only mid way through it bedding in.

No he doesn't look like Mark Ramprakash yet, but he looks a load better than the lad who could only moo the ball over cow where he was 2 months ago.
