A few people have brought to my attention that there CX bats have had fake grain sheets on. A few pictures were sent which showed a bat with 14 or so beautiful grains, but after he had picked up a crack at the toe, the customer gave a light sand and discovered these grains were slowly disappearing. Underneath was 5-6 wavey grains.
As a previous customer of mine he contacted me asking for my advise, I was a little shocked as I have heard a lot of positive things about CX and was in talks with them in regards to stocking them. The only thing preventing this was the weakening pound which made their prices a little out of reach.
I decided to contact CX to see If this had been a one off or a fake bat that had been Sold. The customer assured me he purchased direct, so no chance of being fake.
The replies I received from CX was what shocked me the most. He sounded very proud of their achievements and stated this was some thing they had invested in and this was a new technology they had worked hard on developing. He went on to say bats with fewer grains last longer and the grain sheet provides confidense and gives the user the feeling of using some thing that looks good.
The issue I said is the bat underneath is likely to be grade 3 at best and you are selling as top end. He then said look at JS Wright website 5-6 grains is grade 1, but in the same breath said the grain sheets cover up knotts. So 5-6 wavey grains with knotts is considered as grade 1 by CX. They also went on to say Many companies in the UK are using the same tactics. This is true but it tends to be on there lower grade bats and the customers are well aware of this.
So basically If you have bought a CX cricket bat there is a very high probability it will have a fake grain sheet on the front and back and CX feel it is perfectly fine to charge £200-300+ for one of there bats with this amazing technology.
I have pasted a response to one of my customers below. Apparently they are making people aware of this new technology now, so please bare in mind.
So here few points in nutshell from me
1. Yes I make and sell bats with 5mm layer of cosmatic sheet.thats only for beauty like other companies do with chemical
2. Practically the quality of ping, balance and durability is basic which I maintain one by one in each bat, grade them and put sticker accordingly
3. In last 3 years i sold 5000 layered cosmatic bats and i get complain around 80 to 100 bats which is v minor.
4.Now, I sell bats with properly and clearly declaration of layered blade so its not cheating anymore and people buy bats from me who understand and measure the quality by bat performance and grains are just beauty
5. Leave all people u got emails or pictures, i will give u one contact of refernece from Sydney of store owner who bought 100 bats from me from Sep 2015 to April 2016 and so for got only 1 complain and got dozens of appreciating feedbacks so for
6. Let the bat reaches u and give that bat to any good player n let him play few weeks and then make opinion please
7. I dont use 15 dollar wood i use 100% top standard wood in my top standard bats
8. I also deal big buyers as per their wish if they want all bats from me in natural blade look or cosmatic layer depending on their experience of feedback, profit and stock out ratios
So its all fine when every customer know this cosmatic before he buys ...if u have doubt then lets have some bats in your store without any advance paid and sell few every month with clear pre sale specification say to customer...I bet u will get loyal customers of CX gradually buying every year...
Its new thing also lil awkward so it feels shocking initially and apprently ....so lets experience me
