Chasing promotion - then this happens
« on: August 16, 2016, 01:48:00 PM »

So, we (Stalybridge St Pauls 2xi) are chasing promotion in our first season in the Derbyshire & Cheshire league, 2nd place with 5 games left, playing bottom of the league on saturday gone, we are asked to bat first. Openers and top order are making heavy weather of it but we get to 178 for our 45 overs. Their openers come in, Im at mid off he skys one, and I mean sky. Kept my eye on it dead chuffed took the catch. after that they seemed to make a decision the werent going for the runs, block block block - dont understand - bottom of the league...go for it...nope, no intention, so....we get them to about 8 down going for the extra bowling point, one of the few good shots they hit goes hurting towards long on boundary, I dive for it, just miss it, roll over, somehow get my right hand caught under me, get up, shake my hand, felt a bit odd- end of third finger is pointing downwards, dislocation i thought, itll be ok. They scrape 107 for 45 overs 18 points for us. A&E on the monday (yesterday) to get it sorted, extensor liganment has pulled off the end of my 3rd finger with a bit of bone, so that ones splinted up, and for good measure they see two fractures in the index finger so they are taped together and swollen like sausages.Season over for a ball I could have left for the boundary but instinct took over, if only I had my time over...

Sounds like you'll be "Chief beer taster" for the run in.

Shame you ended your season in such a way, but I'd be proud that you went for it. Always appreciate the efforts of those who try to save one (Run 3, over a boundary). Lifts the team.

its early days yet, doc  said about 6 weeks but yet to go to fracture clinic. i'll still keep involved I do a bit on the ground and still go to the games (If Mrs allows it) Pretty new to the game, only started palying for a team last season and was fully enjoying a full season. Ah well its a dangerous sport and injuries to the hands are part and parcel but what was annoying was it wasnt the ball!
