Bowling machine balls
« on: July 09, 2016, 09:23:43 AM »

I have a couple of concerns about a considerable amount of bowling machine balls my club has invested in. We have two machines, a Bola and a Paceman, but because of a hole in the net we use the Bola in we lost virtually all the balls to the alpacas in the next field.
To compensate the club secretary bought 60(!) GM bowling machine balls, but having compared them to a Bola ball i think they are too big, too light and too soft for the Bola. Has anyone used them with a Bola successfully?
We got them because the Bola balls are apparently 4 quid each, but these were just 2.80 each. I fear we have wasted a considerable sum on the wrong balls!

We have a mix of bola balls and the GM ones and I've not noticed any real difference between them.

Would it not be better to invest in repairing the hole than continually replacing balls?

That is the plan as well, but it was our external coaching company who lost most of them rather than club coaches. All the balls were worn anyway so we did need a freshen up.

They may react slightly differently but should be okay. I've noticed there to be a difference between yellow and red BOLA balls - yellow ones seem to carry a lot further before dropping and moving around!

A batting coach I had said there seemed to be a difference but not according to the BOLA site:

BOLA Practice balls are produced in three colours. Standard balls (5oz) are red or yellow and bouncier balls (3oz) are orange. For details of performance please visit Product List page. All BOLA balls are the same price per dozen. You only pay delivery on the first dozen. All orders of four dozen or more balls receive a FREE Practice Ball Bag.
