I've used 3M 468MP doubled sided tape which is very good

I've used the spray glue  that you use for carpet tiles.  Spraying the stickers of course worked well

yep, standard pva works well. I also have used standard glue sticks used at primary school. For both i just lather the sticker and then hold in place with clear tape for a few hours just to make sure the edges stay down while drying
