Just to add to this... Around 100,000 people a majority of them kids looking at the camera footage in stadiums today watching the BBL cricket... Purist or not that is great for the game.

But bah humbug, lets have less entertainment!

I carried my bat once last season and once the season before. It does give one a feeling of pride and considerable accomplishment. Not a huge bat either, you'll be happy to hear, 30mm edge, 50mm spine, 2lb 10oz - something like that. Next year's target is to carry my bat, with a bat I made myself. Little victories! :)

Set yourself the target Smilley! The trick is to volunteer to open, and then wait for the one game a year when your bowlers do their job properly and roll the oppo for 110 or whatever. Then you have no pressure and all the time in the world. Grind a nice 50* off 35 overs, and grab the glory!

It's a curse mate, but someone has to do it! I always tell myself that opening is the ultimate selfless act in cricket, wearing out the best bowlers and the nice new ball so the cowboys can sweep in and biff it to all parts. We should form an openers union, and demand better treatment, more respect and reductions in match fees!

There's plenty of cricket available out there now. If you don't like boundaries and enjoy cricket looking like hard work then come and watch me play, regardless of bat used ;) :) Alternatively if the 70's is your thing then I hear the Isle of Wight is nice :)

The Isle of Wight isn't as sedate as you'd think, boundaries galore over there too now!

One of my work colleagues played for Porchester in that game, he said it was total carnage

It was more a reference to the IOW being stuck in the 70's ;) :)

It's not all that bad, the ferry back to the mainland is pukka!  ;)

Talking about Island cricket, this island club has an illustrious history! Who would have thunk!

You're too busy ruining the game with them big bats.
