Very interesting because it gives a slightly different description of the intention of knocking a bat in - looking to lift the pressed fibres a little; to improve performance.
This seems to be opposite the oft-quoted intention of 'further pressing the fibres of the face to increase the bat's hardness and resilience'.
Perhaps reflects the degree of pressing Gray Nics give their bats to make them 'almost' ready to play.

I hope they put up another on knocking in. Info from batmakers is highly prized, given their intimate knowledge of willow and the processes involved to make a good bat.
