GN Atomic
« on: January 24, 2018, 03:56:53 PM »

Hi all, thought I would share my new GN Atomic Aus version from our newest sponsor Six Sixes Cricket.

First thing to say is how great Rob was to deal with, I was originally looking for a bat for a team mate, sent me pics and even a ping video as well as giving me his honest opinion about each bat. During this convo he mentioned these GN Aus Atomic bats and although I have had a bit of a cull of bats in recent months I am a sucker for a GN.

So firstly the thing is massive and would not fit through a bat gauge 41/42mm edges, I don't have am electric gauge to be exact but it's around that with 60mm plus spine and all at 2.8 is a big bit of wood, there is a small amount of concaving but nothing much at all. Handle is certainly a little thicker than my 2 other GN bats and more in keeping with my Chris King made bat which is better than the stick thin handles I have seen on other GN bats recently as I really only like a single grip set up.

Performance wise that bat is fairly soft with seam marks clearly present from tapping up and old ball and responsive is decent most of the blade and for a Mid profile seems very good slightly higher up the bat but this will be tested when nets start in a few weeks but in my opinion the most consistent of the big brands when it comes to pressing and performance is GN.
The bat came with edge tape applied which I have removed as it was really think covering all the edges and a good inch either side of the blade, came off very easily and not my thing really edge tape.
The bat does seem a little dry so I will apply some bat wax in the coming days as well.

Once again thanks to Rob.

Are these shorter blade / longer handle, or normal SH set up?

Can you put some pictures of the handle please Chris?

Curious about if it's twine or tape and what sticker is on the top :)

It’s a standard sticker on the top hasn’t got the Blue one Iv seen on some other Aus GN bats and the handle is twine. My XP70 though was also a twine handle.

Atomic is one of the best profiles designed by GN Australia recently. I am very tempted to get an Australian made version of an Atomic.

Quick little update on this beauty. Been netting for the last 3 weeks and this has really come to life and has opened up really well, it was a little hard around the pin knots up higher in the blade but with some mallet work and bola use at our indoor nets seems to have softened up nicely. The middle is very long and super “punchy” best way I can describe it really.

Personally I wasn’t a fan of the stickers on the back, I prefer the minimal look of the classic range so removed all the stickers as part of the refurb following knocking her in & the net usage so looking brand new for the coming season, except the small toe sticker. This was removed and re-applied as I also sanded the toe down to create a little bit of a duck bill toe which I think aids pick up although this was a mid blade profile anyway and light at 2.73 before I removed the stickers and the standard edge tape so it’s a very light and big bat anyways. The cheapest bat I have bought in a while but certainly one of the bests thanks again to Rob @Six Sixes Cricket for sorting me this beauty.

Glad it’s going well Chris. Excellent value Bats these were, gutted they don’t have any more as I would of liked to have got one of the lighter ones for myself
