Magic Bat
« on: August 23, 2018, 05:52:20 AM »

I understand that there's no answer to this question but I am interested in hearing from folks about that one bat they deem very special.

I have bought more than 25 bats over the last 3 years and have yet to knock in and use at least 5 bats. I spend several hours/week browsing through online stores (for new arrivals, sale items, comparison between different stores in terms of price point, shipping etc.) & CB forum. Sometimes I buy with no expectation at all but most of the times just can't wait to receive my bats.

My bats have been from H4L (Warbirds), GN (XP70 & Sabre G2/G3), B3 (both Crown & LE), RS (Custom Pros), BDM (Custom), B&S (274, Supreme), SS (LE), SG (Several G2s), Slazenger (G2s). I try to sell my old bats (of course for 20-50% loss) in order to fund my new purchases. Sometimes I find it hard to let go few bats even though they remain unused for months (btw, I am more of a hobbyist than a serious player).

Going forward, rather than throwing money at random stores and bats, I'd like to be more organized and limit my purchase to just one or two bats per year. Since I am not budget constrained, I am open to suggestions with any price range. Among all the bats I have purchased, I like RS, SS, GN -- but I absolutely treasure that B3 LE bat (even more than B3 Crown). My B3 LE: http://custombats.co.uk/cbforum/index.php?topic=42674.0

What's that one bat you like the most? Please provide as much details as possible to help me purchase my next one. :D

Typically I find that the very best bats I have had have been brilliant because they were used. Pick one or two of your lovely collection and use them.

(I accept I will now be banning myself)

My BB pure Edition that I shared on here is my most favourite.

Not only does it go like the clappers it is also a magic weight loosing bat. Every single person that has picked it up has guessed 2lb 8oz, I thought it was around 2lb 9-10 but putting it on the scales to check for a replica for wet weather and it was 2lb 12.5 .

It’s instantly become one of my favourite ever bats and I absolutely love it!

Totally agree with this, best bats I've owned I've bought used.
Black cat shadow, had 23 grains and was an absolute gun. I try to never hit the ball in the air now as i don't want to risk it not going the distance but with that bat i could time sixes, there's some footage online of a Sunday game i played in with that bat. Gun. It did break in 2/3 of a season mind.

Best bats for me have been custom from Rob Pack, there are 2 key things here though!!

1 - I know the shape I want, weight and middle positions that work for me. I usually go for a full profile i.e. no concaving with mid to mid-low middle at 2lb 10oz worst case 2lb 11oz, you've gotta give'm some wiggle room.
2 - I ask Rob to pick a cleft, I don't care about looks (Only when i buy from Rob), and I just need it to perform.

I finds bats from Rob are the most knocked in when compared to others claiming "ready to play". I still knock the bats once they arrive and I usually buy these near the end of the season or a good 2-3 months before the start of the season so that I am not rushing anything. I want to take my time getting to know the bat before I ever use it.

My favourite part, when the ball is hit you don't actually feel that ball making contact with the bat, these make a deep hollow thud of a sound. Except for 1 bat, which I blame the user and not the bat, I have never seen a bad Rob custom.

I should add: some of these bats are not massive, my match bat till about 2 weeks ago had an edge size of barely 35mm and spine not too high but did the ball fly! its now in my team's openers kit bag :(. I also can't seem to hold onto these bats for more than 2 seasons, people keep taking them

My current match bat is a delight - 2-11.7, 80% heartwood, 22 grains, Blitz shape, unstickered Keeley! It has a shorter blade (by 1''), big bow, and meets the current MCC specs but has all the meat in the hitting area and pings everywhere. Other than that, my CAs and Kranzies are trampolines as well!

The main thing for me is to find out what is best for you. Until you that you will go through a ton of bats blaming 1 thing or another and actually it isn't right for you as a batter.

All the guys on here will tell you that their best bat is not just because off the ping, it is weight, middle height, balance, pick up etc....

Go through all your bats and find the bat that suits you best and go from there
