I don't think it's unfair to think that a lack of structured coaching is likely to impede kids enjoyment down the line.

When they hit a point where things like a poor grip hold them back it's going to be frustrating and cut into their enjoyment because they'll be finding it harder than their friends who have a more correct grip, for example.

I coach another sport in the winter and we see that a lot with kids from other club's setups, that they hit a point where poor technique means they can't keep up and they lose interest.

Something that I used to like to do when coaching youngsters was to turn 'survival' into fun by giving it some stakes and making it a challenge.

E.G. You need to survive the next 30 balls to save the Ashes/win the world cup or similar. I'd then try and build some tension and get them to focus purely on surviving for that long, and they loved it.
