Oddly enough ive not seen this topic before and thought it would be one to come up a lot.

How do people do the straps on pads? Buckles Inwards vs outwards.

Any ways to shorten the straps on the back as im convinced nobodys legs are big enough to use all the straps on my salix pads, i can fit both legs in easily. I just know one week i will be given caught behind from a ball just glancing them.

There was quite a long discussion on this (see above). Fwiw I have the loose end of my strap on the inside of my legs, to avoid having it flapping on the outside of my pad, risking it touching the ball on the way past. Others believe the noise of the ball hitting the plastic buckle to be a more likely source of getting given out.

I'd be interested to know if anyone has come up with a neat. easy way to shorten straps, without them fraying....

Yep the straps are the most annoying things ever. For the top one i wrap it around rather than have a loose part. But for the middle strap there is no way to do that.

Don�t have a problem with straps being too long. If I did I would cut them then melt the ends to stop them fraying.
Buy pads With the appropriate length straps?
I�ll always have the buckles on the inside.

Buckles on the outside with the loose end of the strap on the inside.

I had a problem with Newbery SPS Pads at the start of the season. I am 6'1" and 14 stone and the straps were twice the length I needed. I am at a loss to understand who the pads had been sized for. Luckily they were falling to pieces after 2 games so I returned them and got a replacement brand instead

I've always wore mine with straps outward - if i wear them inward the straps catch on each other.

If you cut them do it with a sharp scissors and then to stop it fraying use a lighter on them to slightly melt the fibres together - i've done this on countless bag straps and helmet straps over the years - it stops the weaved material fraying.

Just thread And fasten don't pull the strap to tight as it causes the calfskin and back of knee to ache next day.
