I noticed your bat has ca burnt in stampings . They haven't been used on ca bats for about 2 seasons ( maybe more like a year and half , give or take)... point is - this bat is old stock . A bit more oil than normal ( who knows where its been sitting all this time /how much it has dried out ) , boning the edges , sanding the edges slightly, then gentle knocking for an hour or more( before commencing 'normal' knocking in ) would have been the way i approached it .
Also , recently , i was preparing a stanford and had a few small cracks develop on the edge just above the sf burnt in stamping . I think the stamping , if deep enough/ close enough to the actual edge , creates a bit of a weak point on the edge above the stamp . I applied some pva , sanded the crack /rounded it off , and it was fine .
