Blind bat tasting
« on: February 23, 2019, 10:52:23 PM »

Can anyone identify the likely maker and model of this bat? It has been relabeled and the supplier didn't know who originally made it. I would like to put the 'right' labels back on it.
It is SH, slightly bowed, slightly curved face, slightly oval handle, edges 32mm max, spine 55mm max, and picks up quite nicely. Reasonably straight 7 grains and butterfly staining.

(I covered the new labels with tape)

I paid £15. Seemed really good value.

Yes exactly. Thanks for identifying it. Indian would make sense as it was a promotional gift originally distributed by Rubicon with their own (ugly) labels added. See new picture added.

So I guess NB, Spartan, or Protos would all be suitable stickers for it...

... Apparently Sondhi always put a three digit number at the top of the handle, but this one doesn't have any number.

Re: Rubicon Bats??/ Blind bat tasting

Just continuing with this topic. The bat has a Rubicon label and was apparently distributed as a competition prize. There are several of these on various Ebay sites/ auction sites.

The bat looks quite decent (not Grade 1 by any means, but quite nice quality).

I spoke to Rubicon and they don't know who makes their bats (probably forgotten who dealt with it at the time). Also spoke direct to Sondhi in India who were very helpful but said they do not make the Rubicon bats.

Does anyone happen to know who makes the bats for Rubicon?

I would probably go with SS or perhaps SF, but almost impossible to tell. If you had a photo of it without stickers someone could probably compare the splice shape which could give a further indication.

there are also some gloves often floating around on ebay that have got Rubicon branding on them, wonder if you found a picture of those you could compare glove brands? and this may allow you to narrow it down?
