Recommend a bat brand for a 3 year old/size 1?
« on: April 09, 2019, 12:36:32 PM »

My 2 year old (who is actually so big people think he is 3) has become obsessed with daddy's growing bat collection and gets a bit hysterical if he can't play with them. They are obviously too heavy, and he is also prone to smacking himself in the mouth with the top of the handle whilst walking around the loungeroom. Very happy to buy him his own bat  :)
Anyone got any experience with brands and the smallest size of bats?
Did a quick search on ebay, lots to choose from - recommendations?

Don't mean to come across as a bit of a div or anything but will it really matter? My lad played with a plastic GM set for a long time, never really had his own wooden bat until he started playing hard ball cricket.

If you're dead set on it go with a brand you trust with a good reputation.

When my lad was 3 I got him a size 0 Gray-Nicholls English willow academy bat. It's lasted really well and is a great little bat.
Barrington Sports have a few size 0s in their clearance for just over £20.

Hi - when my lad was between 3-5 - he had a plastic Grey Nics bat. Get as light as possible. When my boy got to around 5-6 and I started using a slightly harder ball - I spoke to a bat maker I knew who made him a size 0 bat but as light as possible -  when he was around that age there were only Kashmir Willow bats available but they are heavier. I believe GN & GM do size 0 upwards now in English Willow

Yes, plan is to stick with the plastic set then move to a bit of willow when match play becomes less lethal.

My son is 19 months old but also big for his age.  He has been causing carnage taking cricket balls from my home office and launching them around the house and trying to drag my cricket bats around.  I signed him up for All Stars. £40 for a plastic bat, rubber ball plus a t-shirt and bag is a bargain compared to the cost of a decorator and he loves the kit
