I went to fordham sports to get my bat knocked in (no time with uni etc). The charged me £10 for a knock-in of the edges but were asking for £40, yes 40, for a full bat knock-in.

ColtsCricketCompany opened up right next to them recently and I went to them straight after. As soon as I got into a conversation with the owner, I could tell he knew what he was talking about. Initially he said he would do the middle of the front face for £18 but when he started hitting it with a mallet, the supposedly knocked in edges were pressed in even further. So much for £10 then. In the end, he offered to oil it in (properly because my oiling was awful lmao), sand it, apply a grip, scuff sheet and toe guard for just £20. I insisted he take more but he was nice and went on about how its just a passion and a side thing (hes a vet surgeon).

He also had SF, SS and his own brand gear. I tried on some top of the range SF keeping gloves and they blew me away. Really, really nice. Im going sell my SG gloves to make way for those now! Bats were ofc indian imported but they were very good quality. Most of the ones I picked up had big middles and good ping. Edges were medium-thick but I didnt find any with thin edges. At £190 for a TOTR bat, its not that bad.

Service and quality wise I much prefer them to 2 other local retailers and the huge Fordham sports. I will defo go there again.

PS I know this thread is old but thought it would be better to post in this than create a new one.

I went there today to get my SAF finished off; I've done s bit of knocking in on it. The owners really nice and knows exactly what he's talking about. I happily had a 45 minute conversation with him, and he was really nice- he's only charged me fir the materials he'll use (sandpaper, anti-scuff, fibreglass tape and bat grip tape) and is dropping the bat off near me to save me a journey! Couldn't recommend them enough!

I think he is the authorised agent of SF as I had a call from him last week. He has invited me to have a look at the SF bats.

Yeah I just went to get him to finish of my San Andreas Fault bat, but he did have a fair few SF bats, all impressive as well as his own brand and junior ss's...

Nothing like bringing up a really old topic.

I went to see Colt and AJ Fordham at the weekend as I needed some trousers for my son and wanted a change from Romida.

The guy in Colt is super friendly and had just taken a new shipment of willow in from his factory in India.

All his bats are under 2-9 in weight.

This is what £330 can get you.

What makes them guns? 330 seems steep imo without knowing where they're from, quality of the handles, pressing etc. I bought an Indian made butterfly from Ebay for around £70 and the guy was offering bats with grains like these for a lot less than 330.  The butterfly was fine bit I'd not be investing that sort of money when you've got English batmakers offering the same looking willow at the same and sometimes less.
