Junior Bats
« on: July 29, 2019, 12:08:18 PM »

Afternoon all.

First post on here. I'm looking to buy a junior bat for my 9 and a half-year-old. He plays to a fairly high standard and may be in a position to trial with Middlesex academy over the winter months so I want to invest in a high-quality bat now that will assist his game. We looked at Millichamp and Hall - lovely bat, but the handle length on a size four was 30cm - just far too long and made the full bat closer to size 5.

He's 4 foot 7 inches, so I think he'll still need a size 3. I played in the 80s when kids were obsessed with using the biggest bats possible as a status thing, (which definitely impacted upon my game) so I've got a thing about using the right weight and size. Any recommendations? Happy to spend about £150 as it will be a joint birthday present from the grandparents.

Thanks in advance

I have got a Red Ink for my daughter for the past couple of years. Brilliant bats and outstanding value for money. Will be getting another one for Christmas (if she grows).

Just to add. I feel many of the off the shelf bats are mini versions of the adult bat. This gives many of them too low a middle for junior cricket. I asked John (Red Ink Cricket) for a high/mid middle and that’s what I got.

Thanks mate

I'll check them out. Also seen Keeley does a size 3 junior bat for £95 which seems reasonable given his status on here!

My nephew has a fantastic B3 DB1 which is a size 5 and he loves it. I'm sure they'll make size 3 also, and only £75.

Hi and Welcome to the forum,

Due to cost, Most companies junior bats ( 2,3,4 ) are made in India, which isn’t a bad thing but most do outsource

Many also do not cater in a higher grade willow, so you may struggle to get a bat from the bigger companies.

If Chase appealed to you then we can have a bat made for your lad, range goes from R7, R11 and the top willow/performance FLC, which would be £155 inc postage.

Bought GM diamond 909 size 5 for a friend's son and it's absolutely beautiful. I was surprised/shocked by quality of bat considering its junior. I will 💯% recommend GM. Few photos to show this beauty. Absolutely full profile love it. Enjoy

My 11 yo has had a couple of Keeleys over the past couple of years and they were both guns

If you can get to either Beckenham Cricket Specialists or Cook and Matthews make the trip as they both carry decent stock.

There’s a fella who does a bit of work for Keeley who also works at BCS so he picks out the good ones....
