I have a couple of bats from an ex international players and the top of the handle had a counter weight made of rings of grip and tape. I moved it down the handle to make the bat length a size-6 length bat. It does two things for me: 1. Keeps my top hand from sliding up as the rolled up grips checks any slippage; 2. additional grip makes it easier to hold the bat in my top end, I feel I control the bat better.

Without trying to be a pedant, surely it depends on how heavy the counterbalance is in terms of making the pickup lighter?
Yes, the heavier the counterweight the better the balance, but the more dead weight.

I have a current county players match bat from 2018 season and it has the tape around the top of the bat, when asked why if it was damaged the reply was that it makes the handle stiffer which is what apparently a lot of the pro’s his and a few in the county like. If it does or not I have no idea but Iv noticed a lot of pro players have this set up now.

Thanks mate!
