The first thing I decided to address was the compression to the edges and the seam marks.
This was pretty easy to fix as I got the LV mallet out and further knocked the bat in until it was level again.
Once I'd finished knocking the bat it turned out there was a crack under where the "crease" had been on the outside edge.
And I may have been overzealous as the cracks in the heartwood appeared to have got worse!
The first thing I decided to repair was the crack in the edge. I opened this up a little way and decided liquid superglue was the best for this as it would seep the whole way in without having to open the crack too far.
I packed this with glue and wrapped tightly with sellotape to hold everything in place while the glue dried. Once this was dry I applied a further drizzle of glue over the top of the repair and sanded it whole the glue was wet. This fully sealed the area and gave a nice smooth surface once done.
And lastly I used superglue to seal the cracks in the heartwood. I filled the cracks and sanded the bat while the glue was still wet again giving a smooth finish.
I then gave the areas round the repair a sand up to 800 grit and applied a light coat of oil so the face remains the same colour.
All I need to do now is apply a new scuff sheet and I'm ready for the 2021 season!
