Todays weapon
« on: August 16, 2008, 10:10:00 AM »

Have slaved over getting this bat ready to use today... however if it rains out will come my old bat!  I've oiled it just enough, have spent 4.5 hours knocking it in (much to the annoyance of my girlfriend... it should really be knocked in a bit more), taped the edges (us opening batsman like the edges lol), put the anti-scuff sheet on (I don't like them but it will help to protect the face).

If I can get myself in today this bat will go like an absolute train..... you know whats going to happen now.... absolute pearler of an inswinging yorker first ball will see me back in the hutch or even worse will split my bat in two LMAO.
Seriously though I may wait and knock her in a bit more but its calling me to use it at the moment lol  ::) ;D

Yeah its one of the inferior bats I made purely out of interest... I got the clefts for a good price ;-)

It indeed went like a train.... I only hit 40 odd because I like a muppet managed to play over a nothing type delivery!

Just lent on a late cut today and all you could hear was the wicket keeper saying and slips talking about how well I had timed the ball..... their boys spoke to me after the game and said it was the best shot they had seen all year LOL (I doubt that but it really did fly and I literally just let the ball hit the face to divert the ball backward of point)
....I really did only put the blade on the ball and it just went like an absolute rocket!!!  Suppose it just goes to prove that premier quality willow isn't everything..... for me performance is key.... however I can see that some people like the look of a bat made from premier willow!! (I do too but I also want the best performing bat I can possibly make... the one I used today is not even the best performing of the bunch  ;D)

Off the back of this bat today I have some interesting requests!! one guy wants me to make him a 3lb 4oz bat that picks up like a 2lb 11oz LOL (he must be mad but hey it's horses for courses I suppose)

Basically I've got 3 definite orders from me using the bat today and a number of other interested players who have taken my card.... very happy with that  ;D

The one pictured (which is now mine lol) is 2lb 9

Tend to find a lot of people use bats around that weight ....I suppose its kind of an in between weight... not too light and not too heavy.
