ReTwine - Not quite bat making
« on: June 11, 2020, 10:16:57 AM »

So had a go at re-twining (SIC ?) my bat handle.. I had sanded it down a little in the past and had some physio tape on the handle... Like the colour purple so I ordered some cotton twine with wax and had a go! Thought I'd share my effort.

I now know why they use a spinning lathe ... it's a proper pain to do manually by hand, and the PVA glue I used was mostly dry by the time I got to getting the binding all around. Added a bit of glue on top. Binding I think was a little too thick but handle feels very comfortable albeit little thicker than tape... Maybe use thinner twine next time. Overall pleased with the effort.

Good job mate. Worst part about bats is manually binding by hand. I have built myself a makeshift lathe and it makes it so much better.

Looks a very tidy effort for hand done! That's a job that gets tedious quickly.

What I find useful when binding by hand is only gluing about 1-2 inches at a time, that way the PVA stays wet while you get the twine over. IIRC, it takes like 20-30 mins to do this, a pain, but if you're bored, then it isn't too bad!

That was exactly my thought afterwards :D I think you are spot on!

Must say a Noir with a purple grip is a thing of beauty.

Good effort on the binding mate

It is indeed... and one for keeps... as I picked it at the factory tour... not often you can say your GM was picked by yourself in Nottingham..
