I wonder if the generosity of grading depends on what they think of the retailer...

I've had a look at the Keeley Superiors on Bats Out Cricket  https://batsoutcricket.co.uk/
They have a grade 1,2 & 3 and to be honestly I can't tell much difference between them. Is there really going to be much difference in performance that would justify spending the extra £160 for the grade 1 over the grade 3?

Come down to aesthetics and density really, a good bat maker will extract the best performance out of every cleft regardless of grade.

I use a G2 as my match bat as it ticks the box for me in terms of pick up, performance and has some lovely graping in my hitting zone.

Short answer in my opinion, none at all if they're pressed the same

Suppose there's possibly more chance that you might get something with ridiculous low density and massive specs in a G1 but that's pure speculation. I had a G2 Keeley that was excellent looking and performed very nicely, sadly a bit heavy for my noodle-like forearms. I personally don't think you'll get a £160 better bat with the G1s and every chance you'd get a cracker at G3 price.
