Tips while shaping a cricket bat
« on: September 11, 2021, 07:32:45 AM »

Hi everyone,

Recently, I started a project in school where I finish shaping a pre made cleft. I have one practice cleft and one nice cleft. Can I please have any tips while shaping the bat from our batmakers here in the forum? (Disclaimer: This is my first ever time making a bat so I really don't have any experience with making them)

Regards,
Kai

Use a template it’s so much easier than free hand.

Work slowly as you can take it off but can’t put it back.

Ensure tools are sharp

Have fun with it and go with what feels right

Thanks for the tips SOULMAN. Also regarding the template, do you mean marking out the rough specifications before hand or? Buzz, Thanks a lot for the link to the guide, that's really gonna help me narrow down which tools that will be useful for the shaping.

@Kai pick a favourite shape or profile and copy outline onto MDf etc and then use on the cleft is what I mean by template mate worst case you can just put the shape you want to copy on the edge of the cleft and go from there if it’s just a one off but if you plan on maybe making a few than templates are really good.
