The problem is that Crawley definitely fits the brand of cricket they want to play. Just doesn't seem switched on at the moment. That runout was kind of brilliant from Williamson and Boult, but at the same time he absolutely stuffed him

Have to be honest, I thought he was lucky to be given the chance (I think he only survived because Root doesn't want to bat three) but he has done a lot to grab it - there have been a couple of concerning dismissals, but he has also batted with more authority and a less chaotic tempo - which is an odd thing to say in the era of Bazball - than he did previously.  More important, it looks like he is working hard to correct some of the technical flaws which had crept in to his game.

Watched at Trent Bridge and Pope looked very awkward for the first hour or so, but absolutely superb once he got in. Definitely added to the impression that getting started is his biggest problem in tests vs county cricket, with any luck that will improve with runs and confidence.

I think a lot of us said Pope is a bit lucky to be picked but never doubted he has the talent.

Looks to be playing straighter I saw one the full face of the bat came thru on the shot.

Might also have benefitted from the new injection of management positivity.

The less aggressive players interest me far more, Leach has been our best for a while but is clearly backed to the hilt and that’s worked too.

Stokes seems to have a more natural feel for it, 3-0 against NZ is not a score line I thought would happen, if fact I had us down to lose

Watching Ben Compton for the first time. Seems he's a proper front foot pointing at the bowler merchant!
