World Class Willow any better than Keeley, etc?
« on: May 15, 2023, 09:26:00 PM »

To those who have purchased/tried one, are the WCW bats as good as they are hyped up to be? Are they better pressed than other batmakers out there? Keeley, Scott, Red Ink, etc?
TIA

I've had a good look at a couple and they're very good.

Quite generic shapes, well pressed - though Keeley is the gold standard - and the stickers are gorgeous.

Red Ink crushes them for value, Keeley is extremely similar value wise for the price range. WCW branding is phenomenal, Keeley heritage is unrivalled.

Wouldn't be disappointed with any of the 3. Red Ink you'll get more bang for your buck, WCW are the best branded, Keeley you're paying for TK's years of experience.

I've got one. A 5 Star version (the 1/2 inch shorter blade, longer handle set up). It's very good, pings nicely and is well balanced. A very generic shape. I had some vouchers from using Cricket Hockey so was able to get the price down a bit. Definitely premium cost but I can't fault the performance and I am very picky. The only thing I don't particularly like is the super thin handle but I've popped a second grip on the bat and it's much better.

Overall a very decent bat at a very premium price.

So many batmakers around with some fantastic bats and great branding.
Spoilt for choice. If you can afford it.

The review of Will Smeed's Chaos was impressive. An imposing piece of willow.

If it's the big, modern, high volume shape you like - Scott bats do the same thing very well and at a more affordable price.

I’m not very picky but the ones I have seen in Romida were very poor and overpriced for what they were stickers falling off finished very poor. Balance on them I didn’t like not enough high up the blade and handle was flimsy. That’s a small sample set one I have here off a forumite is well pressed and at 2’9 maybe lacks a touch in coverage. But then again I’m not massive into Keeley‘s either because of the handle and pick up on them

Like anything if I went to the factory and got a custom or one from there I have no doubt it be a belter. They press well can’t fault that

I've heard of weight issues when ordering direct.

Saw some WCWs today. Sure they have great bats but the four I saw (5* to top level) weren't standouts. Agree with all @procricket's points.
