Advice on Slaz bat on ebay
« on: January 11, 2024, 12:59:02 PM »

Hey all

I have been scouting bats online and came across this Slazenger bat that is g2 willow. I cannot see any blemishes and am failing to understand why it may be designated at g2 rather than g1. Its got 13-15 grains too. Its on sale for £220. I didnt know if I am allowed to post links on the forum so just saved the photos. Seem like a good deal?

That's come off Sports Direct for probably sub £150, wouldn't pay anything like £220, somebody is at it with that pricing.

It's probably downgraded due to that blemish on the face and the big strip of heartwood. Sure it will be fine but I wouldn't be touching it at that price for something that has come from the SD warehouse.

You could go and get a GM Signature - also G2 but with a proper handle, warranty, and some sort of after sale support - for about £60 less.

Not sure it looks English, never mind G1.

Made by FC Sondi same place that makes NB bats so performance and pressing will be spot on I would imagine. As for grading that’s so subjective for me it’s a true reflection of G2 tight grain 1/3 of the blade heartwood. Looking at some of the bats from larger brands that are classed as G1 or made up G1+, Pro etc and for the price of £220 in todays market it’s reasonable but it his a model that’s a few years old.

If you like it go for it. For a tad above that you would get a G3 from me and maybe from a few other smaller bat makers.

As has been mentioned GM signature is a great option for G2, new model and thinker handle but will have a firmer feel I would guess. Other forum retailers such as @Six Sixes Cricket will no doubt have some lovely offerings from GN that can offer lovely bats at lower price points and @Ayrtek Cricket that owns the cricket boutique may well have something to offer as well.

Unfortunately no active forum bat makers that sponsor are on here any more but myself and Scott Cricket who are not sponsors but probably the most active small bat makers on here are would be able to offer you some newer willow for around that same budget that has been mentioned will have some level of warranty and after care.

Thanks Chris,

I’ve got a few bats in stock that are in the £175-225 price range as Chris mentioned. You can go main stream with the likes of the GM 606 or Signature models or you could look at the A2 Omegs or Vertex models that are £175 and £210 as an Indian made option.

There’s H4L devil grades at £195 too, all bats have actual pics of them in the webshop and you’d qualify for additional extras of hybrid, socks and a cap too 👍

I wouldn't go for it just for the fear of the abuse of get walking out onto the middle! 😆 Having grown up with Slaz being still considered a great brand and local to me, it's sad to see them become almost a point of ridicule now tbh. I feel there are better options out there for that money personally. Plus nobody on the opposing team will rib you about your sports direct spesh, neither will your teammates either come to that!

In terms of the willow, don't value grains over quality handles, balance, performance and service. Grains are just aesthetics generally, the above points are where the real value is imo.
