Aldred lower weights
« on: June 07, 2024, 03:23:34 PM »

Iv noticed in recent weeks Aldred selling bats at the 2.9 mark

Historically he was dead against it .. and recently for weeks been selling lower weights to customers . Wonder what made him change his mind ?

I'm not sure he was dead against it, I think his theory was that a well balanced 2lbs 11oz bat is just as manageable as a 2lbs 9oz bat. This was probably to encourage people to go a touch heavier, as it's very difficult to hit 'specs' for customers at lighter weights. You'd be surprised (or maybe not) at just how many requests you get for certain crazy specs at light weights

I'm sure he's always made bats at lighter weights, just didn't promote them as much. The ones he's pushed recently in his 'shop window' videos have been lighter as these generally sell easier and they're pre-made, so not people specifically requesting 40mm edges, 67mm spine, blah blah etc etc, as they what they are

Light bats has never been a problem with Aldred, the problem was that he would make you a bat he thought felt 2lb9 rather than a bat that actually weighed 2lb9. Always thought his idea was sound in that the huge majority of club players that care about weight want a 2lb7/8 bat when actually they may be better off with a heavier one, but it would have been less controversial to give them that advice up front rather than just making them a bat two ounces heavier and saying 'oh well it picks up really light!' if challenged.
