New bat

Hi guys,

I'm happy to announce that I got my hands on a lovely GM original LE. It looks sharp and I'm so thrilled to play with it.
A friend of mine who's sponsored by GM advised me to first use the bat in the nets before actual using it on the field.
As I'm not able to attempt practice owing to a heavy workload I was wondering how I could prepare the bat. The sticker on the bats says it's ready to play ( pre -oiled and knocked in). What would you suggest. Knock it in to be sure or just give it a go.

Yeah even if it says factor knocked in I would still give it 1-2 hours with a ball or mallet to knock in the edges to ensure the wood is compressed/knocked in properly.

Definately knock it in for a couple of hours - i have done that to my GM Hero and it goes really well....

Keep on knocking the edges in as Tom has said, go easy on the middle but if the ball is leaving seem marks it needs a bit more knocking in. Make sure you put a scuff sheet on also as it will keep the bat in a much better condition

As Ayrtek says give it a couple of hours to be on the safe side, I would also have a few old balls thrown down at it before proper use. Which model is it?

The Flare DMX, I still have some scuff sheet at home. Will give it some knocking from next weekend. So especially the edges? Any tips on making the toe lasting longer?

A bit of Fibreglass tape on it should be fine mate

No Probs, I have an Icon LE and was seriously worried by how thin the toe looked, was solid in the nets though and proved me wrong about my doubts :)

When I receive it the bat looked so fragile, but I'm sure it can cause some real damage.
Any chance you can put some pics of your bat online so I can have a look on how you attached the scuff sheet?

When I put a scuff sheet on I lay it on the floor clear side facing the floor, lay the bat ontop of it and draw round the toe  in pencil on the scuff sheet. This gives the bottom the nice rounded finish.

as suggested an hour with the mallet and a net session playing reservedly should get it ready for the season
