« on: June 06, 2010, 10:51:55 PM »

I have found out that all the times i have got out this season i have had it hit my pads then it clips the stumps  >:(

usually i am a middle order batsman been pushed down the order and been 3,2,4,2 not out and im fine with that
On a sunday i get a bat and been out that way 3 times now  >:( it even came out of no where today on my highest score of the season of 34 while operning and going along nicely playing the bowlers fine then all of a sudden one gets pushed down leg side i go to flick it off my pads like i did before and it hits the pads then ah its hot the stumps GREAT!!!

Any advice ???

Cheers
James

are you falling over to the off side? are you too far across the stumps?

Hi James - Is there any chance you could have another go at describing what is going on - other than the ball is hitting your pads then going on to hit the stumps - I can't picture the position you are in either at the point of delivery or when the ball hits your pads. On the occasion yesterday you say you are trying to work the ball to leg (off a ball going down the leg side) a shot which requires you to be really well balanced and to be aiming to hit the ball wide of Mid on, the using the pace of the ball to hit it through mid wicket, what about the other occasions?

your best bet may be just to get a load of throw downs targeting middle and leg stump on different lengths and to get used to working the ball. not sure what else to say.

Cheers Buzz
Well yesterday i tried to move back in my crease then just open the face of the bat to a vacant backwards of square as it was a small boundary and i had hit one the over before there
The last time i tried to come forward to it and move it towards the leg side and there was only 2 men out there
I think i will go to nets and see what i can do there. But do you think it could be that my bat swing is not quick enough???
No i am not too far across my stumps i am batting from and middle guard

not sure bat speed will be an issue. Personally I think trying to work the ball off the back foot behind square on the leg side doesn't sound like an easy shot!
It seems as if on both occasions, you were batting with a 7-2 off side field in front of you, on that basis the bowler will be trying to bowl the ball on off stump and move it away from you or bowl in the "corridor". Given that set up trying to work the ball behind square on the leg side seems a low percentage shot. In your shoes I would be trying to work the ball in front of square, through mid on, which would be an easier shot, given the set up.

The way the field is set should tell you what the bowler is trying to do and where they are trying to bowl at you, using that information and knowing where your main scoring areas off that type of bowler will make life easier for you.
