Hi guy's I bought my Newbery at the start of last season but never got round to using it with my GM being a gun, anyway I used it the other day in a friendly and it snapped right at the toe a massive chunk has been taken out, It's only been used a few times and I'm pretty gutted, what's the chances they'll replace it? Cheers.

Sorry to hear about that! It's never nice when that happens.
That confirms one scenario that can happen! I have a number of bats that I try to keep in cool conditions, so that the willow does not dry out!
And especially as some bats I may not touch for a year or two! In reality I may come to use it in a year or so, and without realising it, the willow may have dried out alot and made the bat brittle - which is where things like this can happen!
I'm not saying that this is what happened in your case, but it could happen! So how to avoid this happening??
One solution could be a simply moisture meter to measure the bats moisture content every now and then to ensure that it doesn't need oiling before use? Just a thought!

Pete just out of interest how much does that meter cost and where can it be purchased from?

I was reading Newbery's bat care manual the other day and they said that Newbery should be oiled after every six months with 2 coats of oil. I am not sure if that was done or not...

I do feel your pain and it is quite disappointing when this happens to your own bats!! I wish that bats were unbreakable

Try looking up damps meters as used in the damp proofing industry!!! They sell them on Amazon �15.00

Newbery should repair the bat. I snapped a team mates Bomber sps, not to the extent that wood physically came out from the toe, but it could be easily be broken from the bat. The crack was about 6 inches big. The bat was sent back to Newbery, who repaired the bat, added new labels, oiled the bat, applied a hammer edge and a toe guard, all for nothing apart from the cost of postage. The bat is superb now.

Hmmm I just went through my usual start of season prep for bat's so it would have been oiled at the start of April; and I'm just looking for Mike or someone to confirm what I should do with it, just really disappointed to spend 220 quid on a bat for a few knocks...

i had a broken GT....

rang them up they gave me address said include a covering letter and they repaired it for free even though i thought it was un repairable or near too...

but never the less they done a great job and good customer service
