Right then used the bat twice now - once in nets on Tuesday, and once in a game today.
On Tuesday, I batted like a bit of a twirp - basically I wanted to test how far I could hit the ball with my new blade, so it got a bit agricultural. The answer was, if it comes right out of the middle, I can hit it out of the ground! Big hitting isn't really my game though, so a test of how good the bat might be is probably to see how far I can hit it when I'm not trying to hit it far - also, how good is it if it doesn't quite come out of the middle?
So in today's game - a quick-ish 22. Off the mark with a gloriously stroked cover drive for 4, right out of the screws. Even on a wet outfield, the ball seem to speed to the boundary pretty fast. I hit 2 more boundaries, one a clip over midwicket for 4, the other a straight 6 - both off a slow bowler, so needing to put pace on the ball. Neither were properly middled, but both had enough on them to get to the boundary quite easily.
So overall pretty pleased with it. Apparently this bat would normally cost £220, but I got it for £90 as it has a knot on the back (with is nearly covered by the stickers I have applied).
I'm not sure if I could say it's as good as my Laver yet, but it's definitely good enough, and I'm hoping it will even improve as it gets played in. I don't have £220 to spend on a bat at the moment, but if I did, I don't think I'd be disappointed with this bat - at £90 its an absolute steal!
For those who haven't worked it out yet, this is the Dan Swaine bat that ProCricket was selling a few weeks back. So, cheers Dave, really chuffed with the bat, and hoping it will score me many more runs!
