Nixon Force Advanced
« on: December 14, 2011, 07:51:53 PM »

Picked this up the other day as an eBay buy from the Nixon (south) shop. I have wanted to try one for a couple of seasons now having seen a few of the Sessay lads using them when they played our firsts in the semis of the NVC in 2009 and they seemed to go very well. I hadn't seen any for sale used and didn't really want' to fork out for a new one but  then a few cropped up new at discounted prices.

The one I went for is their 'Force' model and they were selling the 'Advanced' grade (G2) which is the third from the top after LE and Elite (G1). It is the profile I had always liked the look of compared to the Storm and Thunder and according to their website the Force has a "deep bow, thick edges and huge middle which combine for a long driving area, immaculate pick up and stunning performance."

The bat weighs 2.9.5 with one grip, 28mm edges and a 55mm spine approx - so not a huge bat by some standards but edge size isn't that important to me. The back is concaved, not severely but it has a reasonable amount. The face has 8 grains with some 'graping' just above the sweetspot. The sweetspot is bigger than I expected based on the rebound with a mallet. I was told the bat was knocked in, but it would need a bit more and a light oiling. The area of 'graping' is quite hard at the minute but the more it's knocked the more responsive that area is getting and it's really rebounding well of the mallet.

The three things that really stand out for me are the handle - Oval in shape but a slight ridge down the centre line on the back, almost like the 'fish fin' handle shape on a Newbery Uzi and it's very comfortable. The bow - this blade has a serious bow in it, probably more than any other bat I have owned. The pick-up - I have added a second grip which they gave me free with the bat and the pick-up is fabulous. If I have one gripe- it's probably the finish. Not the greatest I have seen and most of the stickers are a bit wonky but I can live with that.

I have added a hammer edge sheet and hopefully will have a net soon and try it out. Pictures are below - apologies for the quality and lighting!
