An Aperitif for the Ashes...With Lamby & Beefy
« on: October 28, 2010, 11:58:58 AM »

With the onset of the Ashes in sight, I thought I would start a post of videos containing Ashes/one day success Down Under (albeit they are over 20 years old which shows how much success we have had in Oz in recent memory, which will hopefully soon change...!).

Here are two cracking videos of Allan Lamb and Beefy:

Allan Lamb (with his Slazenger V12 I think) smashing Bruce Reid around the park to win a one dayer in the last over…

The mighty Beefy (with his mighty Duncan Fearnley) hoofing the elaborately moustachioed Merv Hughes for 22 in an over…

Enjoy….

Yes, especially ones of KP dispatching him all over the park ;)

Beefy once more at the MCG in 1986/87...

And his short yet explosive innings in 1985 in England with a nice send off from Thompson..

Just stirring.  I think the recovery of English cricket, coupled with the retirement of some of Australia's finest,  has been great for the Ashes.

Ah, the King of Spain, what a legend!!!

Don't the last 2 videos prove that anything Warne could do, Gilo could do better... ;) ;)

Link to Allan Lamb, Gladstone Small and Michael Vaughan talking about the Ashes last night. lasts 90 minutes but very entertaining.

Great story Gladys tells about Lamb in the nets. After Lamby hit the wine the night before he was looking for a quiet day so didn’t play against the Aussie Academy side but Micky Stewart made sure he was working in the nets rather than being asleep under a tree. Warne was in the academy at the time and asked if he could bowl at Lamby and ripped 5 leggies past his outside edge and then he threw the last ball right up, Lamb’s eyes lit up thinking here was one he could launch but it was the googly and bowls him. Lamby then tells Micky Stewart to get the idiot out of the nets!!! Got to love Lamby!
