Bats made in UK or India
« on: January 15, 2011, 04:50:38 PM »

I've found out that KP prefers his bats to be made in India.  Why is that?

Most of us English chaps prefer UK made bats don't we?

Indian made bats are cheaper, but they use the same willow.  Do we not trust their workmanship?  Or is it the amount of time the bat will spend at sea that is the issue?

People will tell you it the pressing but i can tell you the top Indian bats are on par with the English counterparts and much cheaper..

The moisture content is also another factor some Indian bats are massive compared to the english counterpart weight wise ut down to them being extra dried so the play better but last not as long

Handles Well some Pakistani and Indian handles are no doubt poor but the top end of the Indian pile are as good as any..

Fakes

Problem is do you know what your getting from India /Pakistan with so much coming over from there kashmir/ low grade

I think if you know what your getting Asian bats are on bar with English bats and in many cases better and some of the English bats you think are Uk made are in fact Indian

It about finding somebody you trust but Indian bat prices are raising fast

We're fussier than KP!! :D

He can be confident they'll send him they're best stuff as he's a famous pro.

Indian bats generally come off a production line, so perhaps we think that not as much care has gone into each bat compared to a small british company.

I used a SS most of last season and found it excellent.

I also used a ss in tandom with a Chase and a Laver and it was as good in every sense

The pressing on Indian bats is a bit of a lottery. Some will be perfect but others could be complete dross. They will go with a 'standard' for each bat and wont show the needed attention to each individual piece of willow as manufacturers over here may. Having said this I am sure that it is all very different when professionals get there bats made from India. With more care and attention being show to their bats. Afterall we are just the average punter. I heard that at the stage of pressing, manufacturers in India will often add water to the bat to prevent cracking due to te hot climate and the bat could become very brittle.

I'm sure its not just KP that gets his bats made overseas and isnt very fussy. Collingwood gets his from India and others will as well.
